There are a few dates that I will never forget. April 23rd, 2008, the day my niece changed my heart forever. June 13th, 2008, Jacob’s and my first date. June 19th, 2010, our wedding day. November 14th, 2010, Avonlea Joy‘s birthday. January 18th, 2011, the day Molly Mae tricked her way into our hearts. May 14th, 2013, the day my brother became a daddy.
Today I am remembering one of these special dates, April 6th, 2013, the day we became Auntie Christin & Uncle Jacob to a boy, our first nephew.
I woke up on Saturday, April 6th, to a text from my mom. “Heading to the hospital with Carrie. Pray. :) :) :)” I squealed with excitement. Knowing how quickly my sister’s last 2 births progressed, I knew I would be meeting my newest niece or nephew that day. I had a morning portrait shoot so I figured that heading down right when it ended would be perfect timing. Sadly, I was wrong. When I finished my shoot, my phone was exploding with texts from my family members. Clearly, the baby had been born. I vowed not to look at the texts because I didn’t want to find out whether it was a boy or girl until I got to meet him/her. Jacob and I hopped in the car and rushed to the hospital. When we finally arrived, we went straight to the room where Carrie, Josh, and baby were so that we could meet our newest little buddy. I vividly remember opening the hospital room door, seeing my sister lying in the bed, and turning to my brother-in-law Josh, who was holding the baby. He smiled and said, “This is our SON, Samuel Nathan.” For some reason I was shocked. After having only nieces, I couldn’t picture having a nephew! We were so happy, especially Jacob, who was dying for a little buddy to wrestle with. We were able to take photos of Samuel and his sisters meeting for the first time. It was one of the most special moments I’ve ever experienced, so I’ll let the images tell that part of the story.
We are so thankful for the joy of April 6th, the day we got a nephew, the day we fell in love with Samuel Nathan Chesnut.
