WELCOME TO OUR

Journal

In a social-media-run-world we LOVE blogging because it gives us a space to share more of our work that just "the highlight reel". Honestly, anyone can take 3 great photos from a wedding to share on Instagram. We love sharing an ENTIRE wedding day so that you can see how consistently beautiful our work is. Plus, it's a fun way for our clients to share their wedding images with friends and family online. We hope you enjoy!

The Song

We were watching American Idol a few months ago and my favorite contestant, Joshua Ledet sang Mariah Carey’s “Without You”. When he got to the chorus I basically just lost it:

“I can’t live
If living is without you
I can’t live
I can’t give anymore
I can’t live
If living is without you
I can’t give
I can’t give anymore”

There’s just something about music that gets me every time. You know what I mean? We all can think of those songs that make us feel something every time we hear them, no matter how long it has been. They can transport you back in time to moments like your first dance on your wedding day or a breakup or graduation (made you think of Vitamin C!). Somehow, that one song makes you remember everything, feel it in a way that you don’t unless the song is playing.

That happens to Jacob. Every time “Airforce Ones” comes on, he instantly becomes his 17 year old self and he’s driving around Clovis in his Audi feeling much cooler than he actually is. I had never even heard that song before Jacob shared it with me but it is quite hilarious to watch as he becomes that person.

It happens to me too. At my friend’s wedding last year, as she started to walk down the aisle, a familiar song started to play and my eyes began to well up before it even registered that it was “You’re Beautiful” by Phil Wickham, the same song I walked down the aisle to. The words are powerful on their own, but the memory I have associated with that song takes it to a new level.

“When we arrive at eternity’s shore
Where death is just a memory and tears are no more
We’ll enter in as the wedding bells ring
Your bride will come together and we’ll sing
You’re beautiful”

I could make a list of a hundred songs that make me laugh or cry or just take me to another time and another place but you already know what I’m talking about because you could make a list of songs that do the same for you. What is it about music that can affect us so deeply?

Jacob and I were driving the other day and “I Love You, I Do” by Jennifer Hudson came on. I was taken back to the moment when we were pronounced husband and wife and that song came on and we danced back up the aisle, greeting our friends and family and celebrating that we were finally Mr. and Mrs. Willis. In my seat in the car, I was suddenly overcome with excitement and I just wanted to dance. So I did. And I belted, “You’re the perfect man for meeeee! I love you, I do!” And Jacob was definitely embarrassed. It took me back to the feelings I felt on our wedding day… Just complete joy. It reminded me that in the ebbs and flows of life and marriage, it’s good to be reminded of those feelings. I love being reminded of the way we felt as newlyweds, so fresh and excited. I already know that in a few years, when maybe we are having a hard time, “Home” by Phillip Phillips (a song we are currently obsessed with)  will come on the radio, and we will hear the words and think back to 2012 when we were so content and comfortable in our love for one another.

“Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home”

I’d love to hear about a song that can make you feel something special or transports you to another time and place.
