It’s the reason you skip Starbucks, head to that adorable hole-in-the-wall coffee shop, and ask for your latte in a mug.
It’s the reason you either prefer to try new restaurants or stick with the one you always love.
It’s the reason we’ll wait for the dishwasher to finish just so we can eat our favorite ice cream out of our favorite his and hers bowls.
It’s the experience.

Writing these Little Love Stories has reminded me that we had a lot of fun experiences together when we were first dating. Most people do. They plan extra special dates in the beginning because it’s through experiences that we can get to know each other. They go new places, try new things, and eat new foods just so that they can share in a unique experience with each other. I think this is one of the reasons that our first Melting Pot date in 2008 was so memorable and special. Neither of us had ever had fondue, nor did we have any clue what we were doing. So, we giggled our way through dinner as we tried to figure out what to dip where. It was an experience we will never forget.
I have noticed that the longer we have been together, the fewer and farther between these new experiences are. But we get to be a part of something even more special: doing life together, being with each other each and every day, and experiencing real life.
That being said, I think it’s still so important to make a priority of making those special memories together. This is exactly why Jacob and I try to make a priority out of making those little, everyday things special. We love getting coffee together and drinking it out of extra large mugs. We love getting in to bed an hour before we are ready to fall asleep so we can play a game together. We love making homemade iced coffee and taking Molly on a walk. Yes, these are small things and some might not classify them as an “experience”, but we make each one an experience by choosing to make it special.
Maybe someday we’ll travel the world. Maybe we’ll have some big adventures together like skydiving or swimming with sharks. We could certainly have some amazing experiences that way.
But I have to say, if the only amazing experience we ever share together is eating our favorite ice cream from our his and hers bowls, that would be just fine by me.

One of my favorite “new friend” moments happened over ice cream. My husband to be at the time and my new friend Beth’s husband decided to go surfing together and so of course, Beth and I decided to meet them down at the beach and get our tan on. We never actually met up with the guys, but ended up bonding over Lighthouse Ice Cream in Ocean Beach and starting a friendship that is so so dear to me.
Mint chocolate chip ice cream!
I really enjoy your blog and the beautiful photos. It’s great inspiration to stay open to love and to have faith that you will find the right person with whom to share your life. Also, my favorite ice cream flavor is chocolate chip :)
Kendall! That is so sweet. :) (Awesome pun intended). I love that!
Tiffany, I love adding a little milk to mint chocolate chip, stirring it, and making a blender-free milkshake! :)
Megan… Thank you so much for your sweet words. :)
Seriously adorable!
I absolutely adore each ‘little love story’ of yours and can’t wait until a new one is posted each week. It encourages me always to not settle for just anyone to spend my life with but to keep my standards high and wait on the Lord’s timing. You and Jacob are an inspiration to me daily and I am blessed by your hearts and work. Keep shining for Jesus and He will continue to use you both in powerful ways <3
Oh and my favorite ice cream is oreo mint chip :)
I LOVE making my own ice cream creations! My favorite currently is vanilla ice cream, a scoop of chunky peanut butter, sliced bananas and a smidge of honey. Plus, if you want extras no one will ever know! :)
I’m going to be a Chesnut very soon…and if you know the Chesnut’s at all, you know they love ice cream. I think one of my favorite dating memories is finding out that we LOVE Rite-Aid ice cream and going on special dates to meet there every once in a while (which was right in between our houses)…it’s so good that we are even serving it at our wedding!! ;) My favorite is cookies & cream (his is chocolate chip)!! :) You can be certain that when we have you and Jacob over…there will probably be rite-aid ice cream in the freezer!!!!
mmm mint chip is my favorite, but there is a little place in denver, co that hits the spot. its called little man ice cream and its in the shape of a stainless steel milk jug. its the best. my favorite there is oatmeal cookie or pumpkin chocolate chip. their flavors differ by season and day :)
Althought I have many favorite memories of eating ice cream with my husband and have shared countless mini dates at night watching a movie and sharing a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, one of my favorite memories was with my daughter and the first ice cream sundae she got at 21 months old. California Pizza Kitchen has ice cream sundaes for kids for $1 and I said “Why not”. When the waiter came with that ice cream sundae, Esther’s face was priceless. Her face lit up, her eyes got reallly big and she had the BIGGEST smile on her face. Ice cream, fudge, whipped cream, M&Ms, cherry on top…What’s not to love! It was so precious and she has loved ice cream ever since!
LOVE this! It is the little things…. My first official job was at a small town ice cream shop, and one of my favorite things about it was the people watching–from little elderly couples to young families to those on their first date. It was quite endearing. :)
I absolutely LOVE all of these sweet memories and ice cream flavors!!
I heart love! I heart relationships! I heart ice cream!
I love this Little Love Story because I can totally relate! My fiance and I have been together 6 years now and life is so much different now that we’re working full time and living grown up lives. But I find myself cherishing those everyday life experiences because I feel so blessed to have him in my life. Whether it’s watching TV, playing games together on our iphones or sharing some Rite Aid or Coldstone ice cream, I am so blessed for each memory and day we can share together :)
I <3 give-aways & Ice Cream
Oh and——vanilla ice cream with BROWNIES crumbled on top is by far the worlds best ice cream flavor.
My favorite ice cream experience is walking with my sweetie to the froyo/gelato shop a mile up the road. We always share ours, and I love that they offer cubed watermelon as a topping! Yum! Refreshing :)
This one is my favorite Little Love Stories because it’s right where I’m at… That feeling of falling in love with those little moments instead of just the big ones. That’s real life. Love this! And love those adorable bowles!
Love this :) We love taking those experiences and making them habits to enjoy over and over.
Once we got married, I thought I’d get all domestic and make our ice cream instead of buying it. Apparently I created a monster though, because now Matt only wants my homemade ice cream! No more store bought ice cream! His favorite is chocolate with peanut butter cups. Mine is vanilla with rainbow sprinkles. Everything is better with rainbow sprinkles, right?!
I loved this weeks little love story, i love how real and true it is, its so important to make the long haul the doing life together as memorable and special as the honeymoon/dating stage… In the begining dating is so exciting but i really believe the beauty is in doing life together in a real way! U two are an inspiration, in a time where young people dont value marriage as much you both show a beauty in ur pictures and the passion you add to your business! I love it! Ur friend from africa xxx
I love this little love story! Brennen and I just had a talk about this the other day. We know that in our first few years of marriage we won’t be financially able to travel the world or go to fancy restaurants or anything that the world might consider “exciting” but we are truly excited for all the little moments and memories we will create together as a married couple. Whether it is cuddling on the couch all day on a rainy Saturday, having a picnic on the beach, or having a game night with our friends, we absolutely can’t wait to do life together as husband and wife! :)
Im addicted to these little love stories:-) I even sat my boyfriend down to listen to what has been consuming my time while he is away at work!!! When we watch movies(nearly every other night) we get a huge scoop of chocolate ice cream with the chocolate shell!!! Chocolate chocolate chocolate our favorite!!! These bowls are sooooooo cute! :-)

Some of my fondest memories of summer growing up was going to Rite-Aid to get Thrifty’s Ice Cream with my mom and little sister. It was such a treat, to indulge in the delicious-goodness of the rich chocolate-chip, and also a great way to escape the scorching Fresno heat! Having just moved to Washington and finding out their Rite-Aids don’t contain Thrifty’s, makes me especially miss those California Rite-Aids and those special summer afternoons.
Rite Aid’s Chocolate Malted Crunch is my favorite ice cream! I loved, and still love going to the store with my mom and dad and getting double scoops! :)
Love you guys! Love your stories! And love the bowls :)
Were vanilla sort of folks. Which is just perfect if you ask me, cause we can add chocolate or peaches or caramel apple according to the season and it’s always Yummy!!! (kinda like your photos!!)
home made ice cream is the best!! i bet you two would have a fun date trying to make that :)
