One of Jacob’s Christmas presents from his mom was a heated blanket. It’s red and plaid on one side, sherpa on the other, and totally doesn’t match our home decor. But somehow, it still travels with us, throughout the day, from room to room, plug to plug. We wake up in the morning with it on top of our bed, where it kept us toasty (maybe a little too toasty) all night long. After we get ready for the day Jacob brings it down to the studio and turns it on. Molly Mae instantly jumps on the couch, makes 3 little circles, and drops her fluffy self onto the perfect spot on the warm blanket. When we head upstairs for dinner the blanket comes too. Jacob snuggles up on the couch while I make dinner, with the blanket tucked around his legs, snug as a bug in a rug. Molly Mae searches for a spot to snuggle up and eventually forces Jacob to give up a corner of the coziness for her. After about 15 minutes she’s panting and begrudgingly leaves the blanket so she doesn’t overheat. For the remainder of the evening, as we eat dinner and I join Jacob under the blanket to watch a movie, she goes back and forth between her heated spot on the blanket to a cool spot on the floor. We always laugh at how she can’t make up her mind which is more of a sacrifice.
It’s funny to think how this little blanket has come into our lives and integrated itself. When I see it lying on the couch it reminds me of coziness, of our home, of our family. It reminds me that we are so blessed… blessed with a home, a snuggly puppy, each other. Sometimes it takes a little plaid blanket to remind you of all you have to be thankful for.
