WELCOME TO OUR

Journal

In a social-media-run-world we LOVE blogging because it gives us a space to share more of our work that just "the highlight reel". Honestly, anyone can take 3 great photos from a wedding to share on Instagram. We love sharing an ENTIRE wedding day so that you can see how consistently beautiful our work is. Plus, it's a fun way for our clients to share their wedding images with friends and family online. We hope you enjoy!

The Awkward Conversation

The night that my parents had a “change of heart“, I knew I needed to somehow tell Jacob about it without being super awkward. We hadn’t talked about marriage, trying to be so careful not to move too quickly, even saying things like, “Someday when I have kids,” or “Someday when I get married.” But I knew that if I didn’t say something, he would assume that getting married within the next year was not an option. I played out several scenarios in my head.

Option 1: Ease into it.
“Hi Sweetheart. How’s it going?” Blah blah blah. “So anyways, I had a great chat with my parents.” Blah blah blah. “In conclusion, you are welcome to talk with them whenever you would like.”
Too drawn out.

Option 2: Rip the bandaid.
“Hi Jacob. I talk to my parents. We can get married whenever you ask me.”
Too abrupt.

Option 3: Call him while he’s shooting a wedding so I can leave a voicemail.
“Hey Jacob. It’s me. I just wanted to let you know that my parents are fine with us getting married sooner than we thought! Yay. K, talk to you later!”
Worst idea ever. That means my awkwardness will be recorded forever.

Option 4: Text.
“My parents said we can get married soon. K call me. <3”
No. Just, no.

All of a sudden, I realized they were getting worse and worse. Before I could think of another scenario, my phone started ringing. “Jacob Willis Cell”. Oh gosh. Should I just deny it? I need more time to think. No, it’s now or never. Just do it. I can’t. Okay fine.

I answered.

“Hello?”
“Hi sweetheart. How are you?”
“Umm… I’m good.”
“What are you doing?”
“Just got back from chick-fil-a with my parents.”
“Oh fun! What did you talk about?”

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Why would he ask that? How does he know?!?

“Umm…… not really anything…”
“Cool. Well, I’m on my way home and I-”
I interrupted, “Actually, we talked about a lot and it was really good and if there’s anything you ever want to talk to my dad about, he said you could talk to him if you wanted to whenever you want to if you want.”
He was silent for a few seconds. “O-Okay.”
“So do you want to come hang out?”
“Sure. I’ll be there in 30.”

And that was that. Now that I knew that he could talk with them any day, the next 3 weeks would feel like an eternity.
